What Do We Live For?

For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbours, and laugh at them in our turn?

This line of Mr. Bennet’s (you even have to pronounce his name with a British accent, don’t you!), from Pride & Prejudice, always brings a smile to my face:

But, seriously, what do we live for?

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
(1 Cor. 6:19b&20)

“… whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
(1 Cor. 10:31)

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.
(Titus 2:11-14)

We live that the Holy Spirit might change and use us to bring glory to the God who redeemed and owns us. Our lives are His. What a gracious privilege that they are to be lived for Him, and for His glory.
